How to Dial UK Mobiles

The most common mistake is keeping the leading zero. Here is the correct format.

International Format

Domestic (Inside UK)
07700 900123
International (Outside UK)
+44 7700 900123
Drop the leading zero. Add +44.

Step 1: Exit Code

Dial your country's exit code (e.g., 011 for US, 00 for Europe) or just hold '0' to get the '+' sign on mobile.

Step 2: Country Code

Dial 44. This is the country code for the United Kingdom.

Step 3: Mobile Number

Dial the mobile number without the first '0'. UK mobile numbers are 10 digits long (excluding the 0).

Common Mobile Prefixes

While number portability means you can't be 100% sure of the network, these were the original allocations:

077
O2 / Vodafone
078
Vodafone / O2
079
EE (Orange/T-Mobile)
074
Three / MVNOs
075
Three / O2
073
EE / Three

The 070 Warning

Not all 07 numbers are mobiles. Numbers starting with 070 are "Personal Numbers". Scammers often use these because they look like mobiles but cost significantly more to call.

077, 078, 079...Real Mobile
070...Premium / Personal

Always check the second digit. If it is a 0 (e.g., 070), be careful.
